About ArtWalk 2012
ArtWalk 2012 is back and better than ever, with over 40 participating venues and 50 artists this year!
ArtWalk is a two month walking tour that brings local artists work into high-traffic venues throughout Whistler Village, Creekside, Function Junction and the surrounding area, including cafes, retail outlets, hotels and restaurants. The work showcased includes: paintings, photography, jewellery, pottery, textiles and sculpture of all genres. ArtWalk brochure which lists participating artists and venues are available at the end of June in ArtWalk venues, Millennium Place and the Whistler Visitor Info Centre.
Opening Reception - Thursday, July 5th 6:30pm – 9:00pm. This year ArtWalk will open with a bang! hosting a village wide opening reception that has something for everyone including; live musical entertainment, live art demonstrations, dancers and roving characters, guided tours, face painting and children’s crafts. Don’t miss out on any of the art and special offers, make sure to get your copy of the evening program guide(available at ArtWalk locations and at Millennium Place).
NEW - Celebration of Arts Weekend – July 6th – July 8th. Following the opening reception on July 5th the village will come alive in celebration of the arts. Musicians and roving characters will entertain the crowds. Watch artists compete at the Whistler Arts Councils' 3rd Annual “Paint-Off”, take advantage of daily guided ArtWalk tours, view live art demonstrations including carving, pottery and textiles. On Sunday, July 8th visit the Whistler Skate Park for the “Paint and Shoot Skate Jam” with live graffiti artists painting from 9am – 1pm and skate session starting at 2pm. More info coming soon.
Function Junction Block pARTy – Friday, July 27th 6:30pm – 9:30pm. ArtWalks' biggest party happens each summer in Function Junction. This eclectic neighbourhood comes alive with live and interactive art by local artists including living murals, artisans, family-friendly street hockey; face painting, children’s crafts, acrobatics and more.
This party will surely offer a unique insider perspective into an area recently coined by locals as the “Heart of Whistler”.
Bring your bike or roller skates to get to all the venues and have some fun along the way.
