Course Outline

This is an introductory course in acrylics, designed for beginners who have never picked up a brush and those who wish to improve their painting skills. Whistler landscape will be the subject matter as students learn how to move from thumbnail sketch into completed paintings, through exploration of colour and brushwork.

Bio

Lori Goldberg  is a B.C. contemporary artist whose paintings have been exhibited in Canada, U.S and Europe.  She currently teaches “Fundamentals Acrylics Painting” at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and at Langara College.

Course Material

Paints (preferably artists quality)
150 ml. tube
This is a guide line. You may interchange the colors.

  • Hansa yellow middle
  • Pthalo-cerulean blue
  • Cobalt blue dp (hue)
  • Quinacridone red (cool red)
  • Azo red middle (warm red)
  • ivory black
  • Titanium white (always need more than all other colors)

Acrylic medium (mat or gloss)

Brushes
Please choose brushes that are shaped well (there are some inexpensive sets of brushes that will drive you crazy trying to paint with them)
Variety of size and types
Minimum: one large round, one flat, one round for detail, one large flat, one for filling in large areas
There are natural bristle brushes and synthetic brushes. They both should be explored.
Long handle brushes are used for easel painting, but you can also interchange with short handle brushes

Palette
There are throw away paper palettes, or any white non porous surface. Please do not use watercolor or plexiglass palettes. (They do not clean up) plastic picnic plates are fine too.

2b pencil

Sharpener / x-knife
Sketchbook
roll of masking tape 1" 

*Pack lightly as you must be able to carry your own supplies to the Alta Lake Station House


 

An info package containing a materials list and directions to the house will be supplied upon registration
